To Do or Not to Do (James 1:19-27)

“…How could a man who loved bicycles never learn to ride? This would be like a guitarist never strumming. A pilot never flying. A gardener never gardening. It’s ridiculous, it’s nonsensical, it’s contradictory! But do you realize how many believers do that with the Bible? They treat the Bible as a passion, as a love, as a wonderful tool, they just never become a practicioner….[other] people talk about how their lives have been changed by the Bible and these Bible students nod their heads, and they agree, and they get excited…the only problem is, it stops right there! The Bible says that is a contradiciton in terms. That it is absolutely preposterous. It is unimaginable and unthinkable. So in James 1:19-27, James tell us how we can avoid this plight and how we can ensure we aren’t just people who know the word, but people who do the word; we’re not just students but practicioners…”
